You decide who gets what
Recipients belong to a parcel, not to your account. Make one parcel for your partner and another for a business partner, and neither of them can open the other's - they are separately encrypted, with separate questions.
Every parcel carries its own recipients, its own deadline and its own questions.

No account, no app, and no password you have to give them in advance.

So it is worth being exact about what happens to a parcel, and about what we can and cannot see once we have it.

What that means in practice
A copy of our database is not a copy of your parcels, and no request to us can produce their contents. The same fact cuts the other way, and is worth knowing before you rely on it: if nobody can answer your questions, nobody can open the parcel, and we cannot open it for them. Choose questions the right person will still be able to answer years from now.

What exactly is a parcel?
An encrypted package of files, notes and saved records, addressed to people you name and sealed until a date you set. Until that date it just waits. You can change its contents, its recipients or its date, or delete it, whenever you like.
How does Parcel Rocket know something has happened to me?
It does not, and it does not try to guess. Every parcel simply has a deadline. As that date approaches we remind you - seven days out, then three, two and one - and extending it takes one click. If nothing is extended, the deadline arrives and the parcel is delivered. There is no inactivity detection and no third party asked to confirm anything, which is exactly why nothing can be triggered by mistake or by somebody else.
What if I simply forget?
That is what the reminders are for, and why the deadline is yours to set: choose one far enough out that four reminders is plenty of warning. There is also a secret extend link you can bookmark, which moves every waiting parcel at once without even signing in.
Can you read my parcels?
No. Parcels are encrypted in your browser before they are uploaded, with a key derived from your recipients' answers or from their OpenPGP public key. We store ciphertext plus what we need to deliver it: a date, and how to reach the people you named.
Do my recipients need an account?
No. They open a link and answer the questions you chose, and their answers produce the key - so there was no password to hand over in advance, and none for us to hold. If they use OpenPGP, you can encrypt to their public key instead.
What if my recipient cannot answer the questions?
Then the parcel cannot be opened, by them or by us. It is the direct cost of us not holding a key. Pick questions that a specific person will still answer the same way in ten years, tell them roughly what to expect, and consider a printed access sheet kept somewhere sensible.
Can I use it without ever creating a parcel?
Yes. Plenty of people start with the password vault, which is free and works on its own, and create their first parcel later. Anything already saved in the vault can be dropped into one when you do.
What if Parcel Rocket stops existing?
A delivered parcel can be downloaded as a single self-contained HTML file that opens from disk with no server involved, and an access sheet can be printed in advance. Nothing you keep here needs this site to carry on existing in order to be opened later.
